Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
The Joan and David Health Equity and Fair Housing Foundation was founded in 2023 following the Coronavirus Pandemic. Joan and David met in Washington, D.C. on the campus of Howard University. Joan studied economics and later obtained a real estate license. David studied science and became a dentist who practiced in Washington, D.C. more than 30 years. David grew up in Georgetown, Guyana and was raised by his grandmother. He decided to become a dentist after his grandmother had a terrible toothache. She was in great pain and passed away on Christmas Day because she did not have access to quality or affordable healthcare services. David decided he never wanted to see anyone else suffer in that manner and decided to dedicate his life to becoming one of the nation's top dentist's in the United States.
Our Story
In spite of their education and David's work in healthcare, the couple were both still plagued with many healthcare issues that are treatable or can be eliminated with greater knowledge and experiential learning opportunities that effect change. The Joan and David Health Equity and Fair Housing Foundation seeks to break the vicious cycles of health disparities and lack of affordable housing that will help us all in building a brighter future.
